When You've Been Told There's Nothing More to Try
Compassionate, Expert Care for Complex Chronic Pain in the Bay Area and Beyond
30+ Years of Hands-On Experience.
Complex Chronic Pain Specialist
In-Person & Remote Consultations
"I believe people when they tell me they are in pain. Many of my patients say they've felt dismissed—told that nothing is wrong because nothing showed up on a scan. There is almost always something to find and something to do."
— Justin Cauntay, D.O.
Who I Work With
For People Who've Tried Everything
Many of the people I help have lived with pain for months—or even decades. They've seen doctors, chiropractors, massage therapists, acupuncturists, and often 10 or more providers without lasting relief. If you've been told nothing is wrong or that nothing more can be done, this practice was built for you. Whether you're seeking in-person care in the Bay Area or a remote diagnostic consultation from elsewhere, I specialize in helping patients with complex, treatment-resistant musculoskeletal pain.
Chronic Pain That's Been Dismissed
Pain that doesn't fit a tidy diagnosis or appear on a scan is often misread as fibromyalgia or sciatica when a careful, surgically precise exam can locate a real, treatable source in muscle, tendon, ligament, or nerve.
Athletes & Active People
Pain, spasm, or loss of range of motion that's keeping you from your sport or your training — tennis, lifting, running, or simply moving the way your body used to move.
Posture & Rehabilitation
Children, teens, and adults are working to undo postural patterns and restore symmetry through embodiment work and postural rehabilitation.
It's never too late to find more freedom in your body.
Whole-Person Care
A Different Kind of Hands-on Medicine
A Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine is a fully licensed physician. While most practice in conventional medical specialties, a smaller number focus on osteopathic manipulation, often emphasizing craniosacral techniques. My approach encompasses the full scope of osteopathic treatment, with particular focus on the fascia—the connective tissue that supports every part of the body—as well as trigger points and muscle spasms that can refer pain far from their true source.
Using skilled hands-on techniques, I work to release adhesions, restore healthy blood flow, improve structural balance, and help the body move more freely.
Remote Diagnostic Consultations
Care Beyond the Bay Area
Whether you're in the Bay Area or anywhere else in the country—or around the world—I offer remote diagnostic consultations via Zoom. During our one-on-one consultation, I'll review your medical history, symptoms, and imaging to determine whether in-person treatment is likely to help. You'll also receive a focused second opinion from a specialist who takes the time to listen, identify what others may have missed, and recommend the most appropriate next steps.
How Care Works Here
Listening First, Precision Always
1
First Visit: A Deep History and Hands-On Evaluation
We together will trace everything your body has been asked to do and has survived — injuries, accidents, repetitive strain, posture, and the emotional weight you carry. Then I begin direct, precise manual work. It can be intense, and we move through it together. You're encouraged to tell me what you feel at every step.
2
Week One: A Symptom Diary
For the first week, you'll keep a short daily record of how your symptoms shift. This often tells me as much as an MRI or CT — it separates what's structural from what's reactive.
3
A Diagnosis to the Centimeter & An Honest Prognosis
I tell you exactly what I found, what I believe is driving your pain, and what I think treatment can realistically accomplish. No vague reassurances. A clear picture of what's possible.

Patient Success Stories
Stories of Relief
For over 8 years, I searched for relief from lower back pain, seeing over 10 providers with no resolution. Then I found Dr. Cauntay. His diagnostic skills and hands-on approach uncovered a tendon tear that hadn't shown up on an MRI. Through prolotherapy and manual treatments, I healed. From there, we tackled my migraines—gone—and several other issues. I hate to think where I'd be if I hadn't found Dr. Cauntay. I now have friends who drive up from San Francisco just to see him."

"I have been seeing Dr. Cauntay for several months. I am 77 years old and in excellent physical shape due to my treatments. I see him every two weeks. I am an avid weight lifter, and at my age, I could not continue my strength program and experience my fitness level without Dr. Cauntay's treatments."
